EMRECAN COKELEK
I was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1982...
I started my education at "Ahmet Simsek College" in 1989, continued my education at "Eczacibasi Primary School", than started to high school life in "Pendik High School" in 1996...
at last... University life was started in "University of Kocaeli" in 2000...
than I was gratuaded from "University of Kocaeli, Environmental Engineering Department" in 2005 and started master at the same university and department in 2005...
Now... I am working in VPA lab (Computer Vision and Pattern Analysis Laboratory) as a coordinator to organize the data collection jobs in Drive Safe Project.
PROJECTS...
My B.Sc. thesis was on analysis of input and output water of ‘Kullar Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant’ and discuss of the results. (self-study)
The analysis of volatile organic compounds and their properties. (self-study, in My B.Sc.)
The effects of the particles on the climate changing. (self-study, in My M.Sc.)
My M.Sc.thesis is on detection of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) which are arised from traffic and their risk assessment on the police officers. (continuing)
INTERNSHIPS...
I worked in Tuzla Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant which was commissioned in 1998 as a biological treatment facility with a sea outfall pipeline and designed to serve a population of 4.5 million, a part of Istanbul. Here I participated in the characterization of wastewater project consist of; analysis of chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand, suspended solid material, total solid material, volatile suspended solid material, volatile organic acid and analysis with spectrometer. In the other internship, I worked with Air Research Group of Chemistry and Environment Institute in Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). The project was about emission measurement.
SCHOLARSHIPS...
I earned two scholarships from the TUBITAK in the context of “Detection of Polychlorinated Dibenzo Dioxins and Furans (PCDD/F) with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)” (team-study, continuing) and “Detection of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) arised from Landfill with Gas Cromatography/Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID) and Its Modelling” (team-study, continuing).
The aim of PCDD/F project is detection of PCDD/F at picogram level in foods with using sochlet extraction and GC-MS. The other project is about detection of VOCs like BTEX, vynil chloride, dichloride methane arised from “Ýzmit Waste and Residue Treatment, Incineration and Recycling Plant” with using GC-FID and their modelling in the air of Kocaeli. As a project member I am responsible for the sample collection phase, analysis phase on GC-FID and GC-MS.
HOBBIES...
Playing guitar (electric guitar, classical guitar), photography, watching films, computers (hardware, games, internet,), sport (basketball, football) and I was rower athlete in Besiktas Gymnastics Club from 1996 to 1999.
VISIONS...
I want to increase my knowledges were obtained during my student life to develop my analysis and explanation abilities about environmental engineering and social subjects.
CHARACTERISTICS...
I have the ability to take responsibilities as a team member. I believe that being a successful group is essential for achieving common goals set by the group itself. I do also take initiative and work independently. Creative thinking in combination with finding a sound solution to a given problem is perhaps my strongest side. I have always enjoyed multicultural environments. I believe that so much can be learned, and so many unique ideas can be created, when people from different background meet and work together.
