Academic background

I studied Mathematics at Ghent University (Belgium), and obtained my Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands) in 2001 under the supervision of Aart Blokhuis and Andries Brouwer. I worked as a postdoc at the University of Naples (Marie Curie Fellowship), at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona (EU-project COMBSTRU), Eindhoven University of Technology (Veni grant (NWO)), Ghent University (FWO fellowship), and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). In 2012, I obtained my Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale for full professor (settore 01/A1, Algebra/Geomety) from the Italian Ministero dell'Istruzione dell'Università e della Ricerca, and was a faculty member at the University of Padua from 2011-2017 (associate professor since 2014). In 2017 I joined the Math group of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Sabancı University.

I am a member of the editorial board of Designs, Codes and Cryptography (since 2014), one of the authors of the FinInG package for computation in Finite Incidence Geometry, and involved in the organisation of the Sabancı Algebra Seminar, the Sabancı Math Colloquium, and the Irsee conferences on Finite Geometries.

My research is focussed on the areas of finite geometry, combinatorics, algebra, Galois geometry, finite fields and coding theory. See my research page for more details.
