Every researcher agrees that scholarly work has to be new, unique,
truthful and should have potential applications for real life. There are
however, various ways in which one can go about seeking for the truth and
contribute to the state of the knowledge in a field such as Information
Systems research. I am trained and interested in methodologies that are
theory driven rather than empirical. Consequently, the tools I use for
my research are founded in economics, and operations research
methodologies.
As a researcher in business school, I believe that the research we conduct
should stem from an interesting, non-trivial business problem. However,
it is often the abstraction of the business problem that is worthy of
research, as it is applicable to a general class of problems rather than
that specific instance.
