Ali Kosar received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, in 2001. He pursued his graduate study in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 2001 and 2006. He completed his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He continued with his post doctoral study the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 2006 and 2007 and joined the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Sabanci University, Istanbul in Fall 2007.

Short Bio

Ali Kosar is one of pioneers in the design and development of new generation micro heat sinks and microfluidic devices. His research interests constitute a wide spectrum covering heat and fluid flow in micro/nano scale, forced convection, multi-phase flow, and cavitation. He aims at contributing to the literature by removing the lack of information about micro/nano scale heat transfer and fluid flow and providing experimental data and design guidelines for futuristic cooling and microfluidic system technologies. He has broad experience and knowledge on various types of experiments on heat and fluid flow and phase change phenomena in micro/nano scale. His research made significant contributions to the scientific knowledge in heat and fluid flow in micro/nano domains. The results of his research have already generated more than 100 accepted/published journal research articles (received more than 2000 citations, h-index: 23, according to Web of Science) which have been published in prestigious journals like Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, Journal of Heat Transfer, Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems and International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. Moreover, he also has more than 60 conference papers in prestigious and well attended international conferences. He gave over 60 seminars and invited lectures/talks at various institutions and conferences. He has 3 granted patents and 7 pending patent applications. He received many awards such as METU (Middle East Technical University) Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Foundation Technology Award (2017), Sedat Simavi Foundation Natural Sciences Award (2016), Elginkan Foundation Science and Technology Award (2016),Ten Outstanding Young Persons Turkey Award in Scientific Leadership (TOYP 2015), Young Scientist of the Year Award of Science Heroes Association Science (2015), Science Academy Young Investigator Award (BAGEP 2014), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) ICNMM (International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels and Minichannels) Outstanding Early Career Award, Japan, Sapporo (2013), Kadir Has Outstanding Young Investigator Award (March 2013), TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) Incentive Award (July 2012), Eser Tumen Outstanding Success Award of Feyzi Akkaya Scientific Events Support Fund (FABED) (2012), METU (Middle East Technical University) Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Foundation Research Incentive Award (2011), and Outstanding Young Researcher Award, Turkish Academy of Sciences (2011). In addition, during the last five years, he has been successful to secure substantial funding from a wide variety of resources.
